Technical Training for our club started this week. Once a week all of the teams, U12 and below, complete the same training session. It’s focused on a particular technical topic. I talked about how we structure our technical training back in episode 18 – Creating a Technical Training Plan. It’s a great way to make sure all of the team in an age group are being exposed to the same instruction on the most important technical topics.
Our spring outdoor league schedule began last weekend. The tournament the previous weekend really helped get the kids ready to play the outdoor game again.
Spring Break is next week which comes at a great time since we’ve been going nonstop since the first of the year. Many of the players will travel with their families while other will enjoy time at home. We continue to train during this period but it very low key and we often devote the session to small-sided games.
“I have a free account with WCC and have had an account for a long time. When I try to download the podcast show notes, I get a message saying it is only for Elite or Pro members. Did something change? In the past (last year) I haven’t had any trouble downloading the show notes on the free membership model.”
In my answer to Mark. I let him know that the show notes are available in the WORLD CLASS COACHING Training Center for Free Members for a month and they they are archived but can still be accessed by Pro and Elite Members.

I’m spending the first three weeks of the spring focusing one session a week on awareness, turning and shielding. Players at the highest level are constantly scanning the field and checking over their shoulder to see where the pressure is coming from. Most youth players don’t do this naturally so we need to make sure they understand the importance of checking their shoulder for pressure.
Today I share one of the sessions I use to teach this topic . The show notes will include the diagrams and descriptions of the exercises but also video clips from the actual session.
